For many of our students, dealing with the abstract or being able to transfer skills poses many difficulties. In order to successfully deal with these issues, as an educational program, we attempt to make instruction and classroom activities relevant and purposeful for the student. We have found that our students are more likely to remain engaged in an activity which they deem relevant to themselves. The inability of many of our students to infer or to problem solve presents road blocks to future social or work-related success. Relevance and purpose in learning is one way we attempt to ameliorate these deficiencies.
