The Vanguard Primary School delivers highly individualized and comprehensive special education services to students ages 4-6 with developmental and social delays. More than a home away from home for these children, it is a community of parents, teachers, therapists and specialists working together to find the key that may unlock each child's potential and provide support for transition to future success. Our program is full day with a 2:1 student/staff ratio. It is highly individualized, building on each child's strengths and celebrating each small step towards success.
In this program, younger students have the opportunity to develop school-readiness skills in a small group with intense emphasis on language development and sensory integration. Teachers create a nurturing, but highly structured, learning environment where each student works toward independence in daily living and cognitive skill growth. Guided play and social interactions occur in naturalistic settings.
Children participate in enrichment activities such as art, music, computer class, physical education, library and community experiences, such as instructional swimming. Our therapy staff is an integral part of the team, working closely with classroom teachers to address communication and sensory issues throughout the school day, as well as during therapy sessions.
