Vanguard School - Education

Enhancement Services: Summer Programs

The Vanguard School provides Extended School Year (ESY) services to eligible students during the course of a six-week summer session. Students receive instruction and/or services, as provided on their IEP, which are felt to be necessary for maintenance of skills. Available related services include Speech and Language Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Occupational Therapy. Reading and Math instruction, Physical Education, Art, and Music are presented in conjunction with the yearly program theme. The ESY program is a balance of recreational and educational programming that allows students to maintain current skills through “hands-on”, engaging experiences. Certified personnel and trained paraprofessionals, predominantly Vanguard School employees, provide these ESY services.

The Summer L.I.F.E. program is an innovative summer experience offered to students, ages 6 - 21. This unique program, in its second year, is separate from and extends beyond Vanguard's highly successful ESY Program to provide students with a varied cross-section of "real world" experiences. The Summer L.I.F.E. Program focuses on preparing each student for success in the community, empowering each student to be independent and productive, and encouraging each student to cultivate dynamic relationships with others.
