At the Vanguard School there are numerous technologies in place, creating consistencies throughout the school is vital this year.
Is Educational Technology the same as Technology Education?
No. Below is a great comparison between the two. Often the two titles are used synonymously, but there are clear differences.
Educational Technology vs. Technology Education
Educational Technology (Information Technology)
· Teaches with technology (uses technology as a tool)
· Primarily concerned with the narrow spectrum of information and communication technologies
· Primary goal: To enhance the teaching and learning process
Technology Education (Technological Studies)
· Teaches about technology as a content area
· Concerned with the broad spectrum of technology (How humans have designed & innovated the natural world)
· Primary goal: Technological literacy for everyone
Are there standards for classroom technology integration?
Yes. The NETS (National Standards for Educational Technology) is an initiative developed by the ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education)
to provide a framework for linking performance indicators within the Profiles for Technology Literate Students to the standards. Teachers can use these standards and profiles as guidelines for planning technology-based activities in which students achieve success in learning, communication, and life skills.
