Vanguard School - Parent Resources

IEP Process

The Vanguard School’s committed staff understands the unique needs and challenges of each student. Our staff is highly trained and understanding of the different ways that children learn. Our individualized education program is continually monitored and adjusted to maximize each child’s potential for learning.

IEP Overview

An Individualized Education Program (IEP) is developed by the IEP team that is comprised of Vanguard School personnel, representatives from the resident school district and the child's parents and, if appropriate, the child. The IEP meeting takes place at least annually.

The IEP includes a statement of your child's present level of educational performance, the educational goals for the next year, and the specially designed instruction and services your child is to receive at The Vanguard School.

The school personnel at the meeting will include your child's teachers and other personnel involved in your child's education such as the speech, physical and occupational therapists, and school counselors if a special situation warrants it. You can request that a specific person from the school, such as a physical therapist, attend the IEP. If he or she can't be there, request their recommendations in writing.

It is important to us at Vanguard to build a community of trust and mutual respect. Once your child has been placed here by you and your local district team, we believe the focus of the IEP meetings should be on establishing appropriate goals and objectives leading to a maximization of the student’s abilities.
